Elections 2018Tahirul Qadri announces not to take part in 2018 elections

LAHORE, Pakistan: Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) has decided not to take part in the upcoming general elections.

In a Press Conference in Lahore on Saturday, the PAT Chief Dr Tahirul Qadri announced to withdraw nomination papers filed by all PAT Candidates for general elections to be held across the Country on July 25, 2018.

Tahirul Qadri said that as a political party, they would not be contesting the general elections. He said that neither they were part of a rigged system in the past nor they would ever be in the future.

The PAT Chief said that those were also participating in 2018 general elections who had shed people’s blood. He said that whatever had been happening wasn’t democracy.

Dr Tahirul Qadri said that Model Town case did not set for a hearing even for once till today. He said that PAT did not get justice in Model Town case.

In addition, he said that there was a need to make the electoral system transparent.

“We have struggled for a strong and transparent democracy,” he added.

It is pertinent to mention here that PAT also boycotted the last general elections held in May 2013 over the non-introduction of electoral reforms for which Dr Tahirul Qadri had also led a  four-day long sit-in demonstration in January 2013.
