JACOBABAD: Markets, businesses and schools have been shut on Thursday as a strike is being observed in different cities of Sindh amid call of protests against attack on a prominent spiritual leader near Jacobabad which left his grandson dead, Dispatch News Desk (DND) reported.

A religious figure and Pir of Qamber Sharif Sain Hussain Shah’s grandson Shafiq Hussain Shah was killed and 12 others were injured when a remote-controlled bomb was detonated at a religious rally near Jacobabad city in Sindh on Wednesday.

The Pir remained safe in the roadside blast which took place as his motorcade arrived at the venue of a rally.

Following the attack, Shah’s followers got anger and tension prevailed in several cities of Sindh. Protesters took to the streets and forced businesses and shops to close down in various cities.

The Sunni Tehrik called for a day of mourning in the province. Religious organizations announced to observe three-day mourning in Khairpur, Larkana and gave a call of protests in Sukkur, Hyderabad, Dadu and other cities.

On the other side, police have arrested two suspects in connection with the blast.
