LAHORE, Pakistan: The middle-order batsman Umar Akmal has been handed a three-year ban from all forms of cricket by the Chairman of the Disciplinary Panel Justice (retd) Fazal-e-Miran Chauhan.

The 29-year-old batsman was facing misconduct charges, and he appeared before the Disciplinary Panel at the National Cricket Academy in Lahore on Monday, which handed him a three-year ban.

Umar Akmal has represented Pakistan in 16 Tests, 121 One Day Internationals (ODIs) and 84 T20 Internationals (T20Is). He has scored 1,003 in Tests, 3,194 in ODIs and 1,690 in T20Is with an average of 35.82, 34.34 and 26.00 respectively.

His last appearance for Pakistan in a Test match was against Zimbabwe in September 2011 whereas he played his last ODI against Australia on March 31, 2019.

The batsman had to feature in the fifth of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) from Quetta Gladiators; however, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on February 20 suspended him with immediate effect under Article 4.7.1 of the PCB Anti-Corruption Code, barring from taking part in any cricket-related activity pending the investigation being carried out by the PCB’s Anti-Corruption Unit.
