SportsShahid Afridi claims to be better than current national team players

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Former Twenty20 Skipper Shahid Afridi claims he is still far better than the players in the national team saying he will continue to play cricket for Pakistan in the limited-overs.

Afridi, who scored the fastest century in ODI cricket reaching his hundred from 37 balls, said he left captaincy because he feels he is way more as compared to the other players in the team.

“I never thought of becoming a burden on the national team. I always wanted to make a better team before retiring from international cricket,” he said while talking to a private news channel.

Afridi, who stepped down from the T20 captaincy on April 3, 2016 said many people say that there is immense talent in Pakistan but the reality is that currently there is no talent coming up in the country.

“The talent which is demanded in the current circumstances is not coming up in Pakistan,” he said.

Afridi, who was the 2011 World Cup’s joint-leading wicket-taker with 21 wickets, said there are many things in Pakistan cricket which need to be fixed in order to improve the game.

Afridi who is nicknamed “Boom Boom” said he has a lot to say but currently as he is on the Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) central contract he cannot say much.

Responding to a question, Afridi, who is regarded as an aggressive and attack oriented cricketer said firstly we need to put the men’s cricket on the right track and then should think about fixing the women’s cricket.

Speaking about the return of pacer Muhammad Amir to Test cricket, Afridi said the media was “putting undue pressure” on Amir.

He also urged Amir to stay strong in the series in England.

“I am hopeful that Amir will fulfill the expectations of everyone and will perform with all his might in the series against England,” he said.
