ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Prime Minister Imran Khan has welcomed the Australian Cricket Team to Pakistan after an absence of 24 years.

“Pakistan’s cricket lovers have always had great respect & admiration for Australian cricket,” the prime minister wrote on Twitter on Friday.

The prime minister further said that “We are all looking forward to a highly competitive & interesting series. Good luck to both teams.”

The Australian Cricket Team arrived in Pakistan last Sunday for a three-match Test series, 3 One Day Internationals (ODIs), and one T20 International.

Separately, the prime minister also expressed grief and sorrow over the demise of the former Australian Wicketkeeper Rodney Marsh.

The 74-year-old Rodney Marsh died in an Adelaide hospital where he had been admitted last week after suffering a heart attack.

“Saddened to learn of the passing of Rodney Marsh who was Australia’s legendary wicket keeper,” Imran Khan said.

Imran Khan said that during my cricketing career I remember him being not just a great cricketer but one who was respected by both his own team and his opponents.

Rodney Marsh played 96 Tests and 92 ODIs for Australia from 1970 to 1984. In his Test career, he scored 3,633 runs with an average of 26.51 while in his 76 ODI innings, he scored 1,225 runs with an average of 20.08.
