RAWALPINDI, Pakistan: The Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa on Saturday welcomed International football players including Brazilian Star Ronaldinho, and said that Pakistan is a peace and sports loving Country.

“Sports promote peace and your visit is most welcomed by all Pakistanis especially young footballers,” the COAS remarked when he hosted a reception for visiting International football players including Ronaldinho, Ryan Giggs, Robert Pires, Nicolas Anelka, George Boating, David James and Luis Boa Morte.

The COAS thanked them for their visit to Pakistan, the Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) said in a press release.

The visiting players thanked the COAS for organizing their tour and the support. They said that Pakistan is a beautiful Country and they look forward to enjoy the trip.

The COAS also thanked Leisure League for organizing the trip in collaboration with Pakistan army and promoting peace & sports. 

Earlier in the morning, seven International footballers arrived in Pakistan to play two matches, the first of which is being played at Abdul Sattar Edhi Hockey Stadium in Karachi on Saturday evening while the second match will be played in Lahore on Sunday.

Ronaldinho will lead one team while the other team will be led by Ryan Giggs. Both the teams will be a mix-up of foreign and local players.

On the sidelines of Bahrain International Airshow, Commander of Ninth Air Force (US Air Forces Central Command — AFCENT), Lieutenant General Derek France called on Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmed Baber Sidhu, Chief of the Air Staff, Pakistan Air Force. The Air Chief reiterated his resolve to further enhance the existing bilateral cooperation between the two strategic partners. Commander AFCENT appreciated Pakistan’s efforts in promoting regional peace and vowed to enhance cooperation in the fields of joint training, mutual exercises and military to military collaboration. In a separate meeting, Chief of the Air Staff also called on Field Marshal Shaikh Khalifa bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, Commander-in-Chief of the Bahrain Defence Force.
