LAHORE, Pakistan: The former Captain Misbah-ul-Haq has been appointed as the Head Coach of Pakistan Cricket Team while Waqar Younis will assume the responsibility as the Bowling Coach on a three-year contract.

The 45-year-old Misbah-ul-Haq has also been assigned the additional charge of Chief Selector. He will remain as the Head Coach and the Chief Selector for three years in all three formats.

Their appointment has been made by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) as per the recommendations sent by a five-member Panel which conducted interview process for the posts of Head and Bowling Coaches last week.

The Panel included the former Captain Intikhab Alam, Bazid Khan, the PCB Director International Cricket Zakir Khan, the Managing Director PCB Waseem Khan and the Board of Governors Member Asad Ali Khan.

Both Misbah-ul-Haq and Waqar Younis have led Pakistan Cricket Team as Captains in their respective tenures as players.

Misbah-ul-Haq played 75 Tests and 162 One Day Internationals (ODIs) for Pakistan whereas the 47-year-old Waqar Younis Khan featured in 87 Tests and 262 ODIs.

Under Misbah’s Captaincy, Pakistan clinched the number one spot in the ICC Test rankings in 2016.

The new appointments followed a decision by the PCB last month, according to which, the contracts of Head Coach Mickey Arthur, Bowling Coach Azhar Mahmood, Batting Coach Grant Flower and Trainer Grant Luden were ceased to be renewed.
