LAHORE: Former Pakistan’s legendary batsman Javed Miandad on Wednesday offered to quit his post of Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Director General in order to save the services of various lower-grade employees.

“I have been hearing and reading since long that some vested interests are really bothered to see me as the director general. I intend to make it clear that I have, Alhamdulillah, achieved highest class of success in cricket,” Miandad said in a statement.

“Former chairman PCB Mr Ijaz Butt appointed me the DG because he recognised my stature. Mr Butt also mentioned that this is ‘Miandad’ specific position due to my credentials in the game. I wish to make it clear that I’ve done a lot for Pakistan cricket.”

“Now it is Pakistan cricket which needs me and it is not the other way round. If my departure from the Board as DG could save the jobs of low-salaried staff at the PCB, I will be the first person to leave,” he added.
