India beats Bangladesh to meet Pakistan in ICC Champions Trophy 2017 Final

SportsIndia beats Bangladesh to meet Pakistan in ICC Champions Trophy 2017 Final

Bangladesh’s journey came to an end in ICC Champions Trophy 2017 following a nine-wicket loss to India in the second semi-final at Edgbaston on Thursday.

With an emphatic win against Bangladesh, Virat Kohli’s team made it through to the final to defend its title against Pakistan at The Oval on June 18.

Bangladesh fell short of 50 to 60 runs despite having been provided a platform by Tamim Iqbal and Mushfiqur Rahim to accelerate the innings and set a target of well over 300 runs in allocated 50 overs. However, the set 265-run target wasn’t enough against strong Indian batting lineup on a batting-friendly wicket at Edgbaston. As a result, India comprehensively beat Bangladesh by nine wickets.

Following being asked to bat first, Bangladesh had a shaky start as Soumya Sarkar and Sabbir Rahman fell early for just 31 runs but then Tamim and Mushfiqur Rahim constructed a 123 runs partnership for third wicket.

Tamim got out on 70 and Mushfiqur Rahim on 60 while the last match Centurions Shakib Al Hasan and Mahmudullah couldn’t contribute much in this match and fell for 15 and 21 runs respectively.

From India, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Jasprit Bumrah and Ravindra Jadeja took two wickets each whereas one was bagged by Ravindra Jadeja.

India just lost one wicket of Shikhar Dhawan and reached the target in 40.1 overs. Rohit Sharma completed his 11th ODI Century and scored unbeaten 123 runs off 129 balls with one six. The Captain Virat Kohli also scored 96 runs without losing his wicket.

Shikhar Dhawan has still the most runs in his account – 317 including today’s 46 – in four matches of the tournament.
