Special committee reviews arrangements for Chinese president’s visit

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: As the Chinese President Xi Jinping is to arrive in Pakistan this month, a special committee reviewed arrangements for his visit in Islamabad on Friday.

It was the second meeting of the committee led by the Federal Finance Minister Ishaq Dar to coordinate arrangements for the visit of the Chinese president.

The special committee was constituted by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.

During the meeting, a detailed presentation was given on arrangements regarding signing of agreements and Memorandum of Understandings (MOUs) – related to energy, infrastructure, communication, economic & technical cooperation and a number of other fields – with China during Xi Jinping’s visit.

The meeting also reviewed the Itinerary and related events while the Information Ministry was asked to make elaborate arrangements for media coverage of the visit and finalise the cultural programmes.

Earlier on Thursday, at her weekly media briefing in Islamabad, the Foreign Office Spokesperson Tasnim Aslam said that the Chinese president will visit Pakistan this month; however, dates have not been finalized yet.

“Pakistan and China are strategic partners and all weather friends,” the spokesperson said, adding that such high level exchanges are aimed at further strengthening and cementing the bilateral relations.
