ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Thursday left for Sri Lanka to attend the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM), scheduled to be held in Colombo from November 15 to 17.

In a statement, the Foreign Office spokesperson said “Pakistan has friendly and cordial relations with Sri Lanka and our participation in the summit will further cement these relations.”

The prime minister will also hold bilateral meetings on the sidelines of the Commonwealth conference with other heads of states including the president of Sri Lanka, and his counterparts of Australian and New Zealand on promotion of bilateral trade.

The secretary foreign affairs will represent Pakistan in the ministerial level meeting to be held before the moot.

A meeting of Commonwealth Business Forum will also be held in Colombo in which the chairman of board of investment will participate.

The delegation which will travel to Sri Lanka along with Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif includes Begum Kulsoom Nawaz Sharif‚ Special Assistant to Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs Syed Tariq Fatemi‚ Minister of State for Information Technology and Telecom Ms Anusha Rahman Ahmad Khan and the Foreign Secretary Jalil Abbasi Jilani.
