Pakistan urges Bangladesh to avoid blame game

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan said on Wednesday that Bangladesh should avoid blame game and the two countries should try to strengthen their relations.

In a statement the Foreign Office spokesman Aizaz Ahmed Chaudhry said that Bangladesh is our neighboring Islamic country and Pakistan wants to strengthen ties with it.

The statement came a day after Bangladesh summoned Pakistani high commissioner Afrasiab Qureshi in Dhaka to protest the resolution passed in Pakistan’s National Assembly which expressed concern over hanging of Jamaat-i-Islami (JI) Bangladesh leader Abdul Qadir Mullah.

“The Pakistani envoy has been summoned and the Secretary Bilateral Affairs Mustafa Kamal is expected to hand over a protest note,” senior Bangladeshi’s Foreign Office spokesman said on Tuesday.

On Monday, the National Assembly had adopted a resolution expressing concern over hanging of the JI Bangladesh leader Abdul Qadir Mullah for his loyalty with Pakistan during the events of 1971.

The resolution moved by the JI lawmaker Sher Akbar Khan had also expressed condolences with Bangladesh and family members of Abdul Qadir Mullah.
