ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif said on Friday that Pakistan was not engaged in an arms race with any country, adding that country’s Strategic capability would continue to follow its policy of credible minimum deterrence.

In his address after receiving a briefing from Director General Strategic Plans Division Lt. Gen (retd) Khalid Ahmed Kidwai, the prime minster said the country’s nuclear assets were safe as he stressed that Pakistan was a peaceful atomic country.

Earlier, the prime minister visited National Command Center of National Command Authority (NCA) and a weapons storage site on Friday.

The prime minister commended the skills‚ expertise‚ professionalism and dedication of individuals as well as the organizations involved in the development of the NCC and the requisite support systems.

Sharif was also given a demonstration of the state-of-art connectivity of countrywide strategic assets which is an exclusive network ensuring effective control over the strategic assets by the NCA. Later, he visited a technical site where he was briefed by Commander Army Strategic Force Command.

The prime minister expressed complete satisfaction over the safe‚ secure and foolproof security architecture in place for the physical safety and security of Pakistan’s strategic assets.

Director General Strategic Plans Division Lt. Gen (Retd) Khalid Ahmed Kidwai briefed the Prime Minister on the indigenously developed strategic command‚ control and support system‚ which is designed to facilitate decision making at the NCC.

On the occasion, Finance Minister Ishaq Dar‚ Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee General Khalid Shamim Wynne and other senior military officers‚ scientists and engineers were also present.
