Sarlahi, Nepal: One Indian was killed while five sustained injuries while attacking Nepal’s Armed Police Force (APF) personnel at Narayanpur border point between Nepal and India on Friday morning, reports Indian media.

While Kathmandu based Republica reported that five Indians sustained injuries. The clash erupted after a group of Indian nationals forcefully tried to enter Nepal via the border point at around 9 am on Friday.

According to Superintendent of APF Gangaram Shrestha, Nepali Police was forced to fire five shots on the Indians after they snatched the weapons from APF personnel and attempted to enter Nepali territory.

Initially, the APF personnel fired at least ten shots in the air to disperse the Indians. “Even after we fired into the air, they did not go back; then we were forced to fire on them,”

One Indian national has been arrested for snatching weapons from the APF personnel, he said.

“Four Indian nationals who were injured in the incident immediately fled to the Indian side of the border. Hence, we don’t know more about their situation now,” Shrestha added.

“One of the injured Indian national is said to have died, but that is yet to be verified,”

The incident site lies along the Nepal-India border in the south-eastern part of Sarlahi district.

Following the incident, Nepal’s APF team is holding talks with the Indian border force at the incident site.

The Indian nationals are said to be smugglers who were trying to enter Nepal. Amid the lockdown and tightened security along the border, the alleged cross-border movement of smugglers has also been restricted.

Earlier last week, a group of Indian smugglers had attempted to attack the Nepali Armed Police Force personnel at Simara-Phenara border point between Nepal and India in the Bishnu Rural Municipality of Sarlahi.
