ANKARA, Turkey: Responding to India’s response over President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s remarks about the recent violence in Delhi, Turkey has termed the comments made by the Indian Ministry of External Affairs Spokesperson Raveesh Kumar “as overstepping the limit and as an irresponsible attempt to deny concrete facts.”

Last week, the Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan had severely criticized India for anti-Muslim incidents in Delhi and call them “massacres of Muslims”.

In response, the Indian Ministry of External Affairs Spokesperson Raveesh Kumar on Thursday said that Erdogan’s remarks on Delhi violence were “factually inaccurate” and “driven by his own political agenda”.

“They’re factually inaccurate, they’re driven by his own political agenda. We don’t expect such statements from a Head of State. We made strong demarche with Turkish Ambassador in Delhi on 3rd March on this,” Raveesh Kumar said in a media briefing in New Delhi.

When asked to comment on his Indian Counterpart’s statement, the Spokesperson of the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs Hami Aksoy said that “We consider the comments made by the Spokesperson of the Indian Ministry of External Affairs during his press statement on March 5 on President Erdoğan’s remarks regarding the recent violent incidents in Delhi as overstepping the limit and as an irresponsible attempt to deny concrete facts.”

Hami Aksoy said that the video footage circulated by international news agencies clearly manifests the acts of violence carried out against Muslims in New Delhi after February 23.

“We expect from the Indian government to ensure that the security agencies take necessary measures to prevent acts of violence against Muslims, and to exercise utmost sensitivity for the protection of peace and safety of all its citizens,” Hami Aksoy said.
