- We are committed to enhancing relations between Türkiye and Bangladesh, says Turkish envoy in Dhaka

DHAKA, Bangladesh: The Turkish Embassy in Bangladesh observed the 100th anniversary of the Republic of Turkiye at a hotel in the Capital Dhaka Sunday night.
The Minister of Justice and Parliamentary Affairs of Bangladesh Anisul Huq attended the event as the Chief Guest while M A Mannan, Minister of Planning, also attended the event as Special Guest.
The Turkish envoy in Dhaka Ramis Şen welcomed diplomats, and Turkish and Bangladeshi citizens at the event.
“Today, we celebrate with great honor and pride the centennial of the Republic of Türkiye. It is a great honor for me to serve as the Turkish ambassador in Bangladesh,” said Şen while addressing the gathering.
Underlining Bangladesh as a friendly nation, he said that Türkiye would celebrate the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Türkiye and Bangladesh in February 2024.
“The Republic of Türkiye and the People’s Republic of Bangladesh have strong and deep-rooted relations. We are committed to further enhancing and diversifying our bilateral relations in all fields,” Şen added.
He added thatTurkish Airlines’ direct flights between Dhaka and Istanbul have been making great contribution to the promotion of bilateral relations.
“We are aiming to further our bilateral trade volume, which is around 1.2 billion USD,” said the Turkish diplomat, adding that relations between private companies of the two countries have been improving and there have been some important joint investments.
Recalling the Turkish citizens who lost their lives on February 06 this year due to a devastating earthquake, he expressed gratitude to the Bangladesh government for its support and solidarity.
“I also remember with deep respect and gratitude our former ambassador to Bangladesh, H.E. Devrim Öztürk, who passed away during the earthquake,” he said.
The Turkish envoy also read out the message of Recep Tayyip Erdogan, President of the Republic of Türkiye, issued on the occasion of 29 October Republic Day.
The Minister of Justice and Parliamentary Affairs of Bangladesh Anisul Huq said that the relationship between Bangladesh and Turkiye in terms of bilateral trade and culture has been significantly bolstered during the government of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
Referring to the huge popularity of Turkish mega serials in Bangladesh, the minister said that the connectivity between the people of the two nations is being strengthened through those series. Bangladeshi people like the historic Turkish mega serials like Dirilis Ertugrul and Kurulus Osman.
Huq also emphasized using the scope of boosting bilateral trade for the mutual interest of both countries.
He urged Turkish investors to come to Bangladesh to invest in the country’s Special Economic Zone.
The Bangladeshi minister thanked Turkiye for responding to the humanitarian crisis of the Rohingya people from the very beginning. He said that the Turkish government and its different organizations have been providing medical and other support for the persecuted Rohingya.
Nearly 1.2 million Rohingya Muslims have been living in 33 congested camps in Bangladesh’s southern border district of Cox’s Bazar and of them mostly fled a brutal military crackdown in their home Country of Myanmar’s Rakhine State in August 2017.
