DHAKA, Bangladesh: The Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has tendered her resignation on Monday and fled to neighboring India in an army helicopter.
Her resignation followed violent protests in the Country especially in the Capital Dhaka, demanding Sheikh Hasina’s resignation after her government launched a crackdown on students protesting against the quota system in government jobs.
“She and her sister have left Ganabhaban (the Prime Minister’s official residence) for a safer place,” the source told AFP. “She wanted to record a speech. But she could not get an opportunity to do that.”#BangladeshProtests https://t.co/gDJ2RHD64a pic.twitter.com/ZiWIVpzrJl

Meanwhile, thousands of Bangladeshi protesters stormed the Palace of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in Dhaka as she fled the Country.
Later in a televised address, Bangladesh’s Army Chief Wakeruz Zaman said that an interim government will be formed in the Country after Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina resigned.
Wakeruz Zaman vowed justice for all the Bangladeshi people. He said that now he is going to meet President of Bangladesh Mohammed Shahabuddin to resolve the situation.
The clashes between police and anti-government protesters left at least 300 people dead including police officials in Bangladesh.
The students were pressing for a nine-point demand that included an apology from Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, and resignations of several ministers including Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan.
The organisers of Anti-Discriminatory Student Movement had also announced to launch a Countrywide non-cooperation movement from Monday.
Sheikh Hasina had secured her fourth straight term in January 2024 as Bangladesh’s Prime Minister in a controversial election boycotted by the opposition.
