Afghan presidential candidates agree to form national unity govt

KABUL, Afghanistan: The two feuding presidential candidates in Afghanistan Abdullah Abdullah and Ashraf Ghani Ahmadzai have agreed to form a national unity government.

The candidates agreed that they would form a national unity government after an audit of votes is completed to decide the winner of the disputed election.

The agreement was announced by both the opponents following meetings with the US Secretary of State John Kerry in Kabul on Friday. The talks were aimed at preventing the country from going deeper into political chaos after the election in Afghanistan.

The joint declaration signed by both the opponents did not provide details on the government’s framework, except that both sides would form a commission to work on its structure.
