KABUL: The front-runner in Afghanistan’s runoff presidential election Abdullah Abdullah has threatened to reject the election result because his demand for a halt to the vote-counting process over fraud allegations was not met.

On Wednesday during a press conference, Abdullah had called for vote counting to stop over fraud claims.

“From now onwards, since (the election authorities) have not responded to our legitimate demands. Everything they do and the result of their activities will not be accepted by us,” Abdullah told reporters on Thursday.

Abdullah had accused presidential candidate Ashraf Ghani, outgoing Afghan President Hamid Karzai, and the country’s Independent Election Commission (IEC) of attempting to change the results.

The initial results of the Afghanistan’s presidential run-off election held between former foreign minister Abdullah Abdullah and ex-World Bank economist Ashraf Ghani on June 14 are expected to be announced on July 2 and final results on July 22.
