DELHI, India: The 1947 Partition Archive, a nonprofit oral history organization, will launch its first book “10,000 MEMORIES: A lived history of Partition, Independence and World War II in South Asia” at the India Habitat Centre in Delhi on Friday.

The former Member of Indian Rajya Sabha Dr. Karan Singh will unveil the book whereas a panel of Book Editors will shine light on the creation of this monumental work.

1947 Partition Archive Launches Book '10,000 MEMORIES'The award-winning female Sufi singer and composer Sonam Kalra will perform a musical set.

The inaugural book ‘10,000 MEMORIES’, which will be part of a series, is a passionate labor of love by 40 Editors, Curators and Artists, as well as 30 Contributing Authors, featuring the stories of nearly 400 Partition witnesses.

Based on the first and the largest pan-South Asian oral history survey ever conducted, the book 10,000 Memories tells the story of Partition, World War II and Independence in the Mid-20th Century Indian Subcontinent through hundreds of individual experiences.

It unveils new threads of histories that contextualize the 1947 Partition within the larger global impacts of World War II.

It is the most comprehensive work yet, on lived histories of Partition.

The stories showcased give voice to diverse communities previously left out of the larger narrative of the 1947 Partition and Mid-20th Century South Asian histories.

The 1947 Partition Archive is offering a 25 percent launch discount for event attendees.
