K-Electric outlines precautionary safety measures to prevent electrocution during monsoon

KARACHI, Pakistan: K-Electric (KE) has advised the citizens of Karachi to adopt precautionary safety measures in light of possible heavy rainfall in the city, says a press release issued in this regard.

People are advised to be wary of fallen electricity wires and any objects that they may be touching, since these lines could be energized. Thus, coming into contact with telephone cables or TV wires could prove to be hazardous if those objects are touching live power cables. For the same reason, KE also suggests staying clear of debris and fallen trees.

Similarly, people are warned about touching wires, doorbells and other electrical appliances with wet hands and when it is raining.

Citizens are also urged to not take matters into their own hands in case of a power disruption caused by downed power lines. Instead, they are strongly advised to seek the utility company’s help.

“A small mistake or a slight bit of negligence could result in a fatal accident. So we urge the citizens of Karachi to take the necessary precautions because it may just prove to be life-saving. On our part, we will have our service team ready to help out in case our expertise is needed,” said KE’s spokesperson.

The company’s press statement also warned people from using metal wires for drying clothes.

KE has also reminded people to keep a safe distance from trees, tall objects and items made of metal during thunderstorms. Since water accumulates on streets, people are advised to watch out for manholes and downed wires.

KE would like to assure its customers that the KE team would be on standy-by to rectify any fault in case it occurs.
