CrimeSC dismisses Punjab police report on Badami Bagh

ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court of Pakistan (SC) on Monday dismissed Punjab police report on Badami Bagh riots, the chief justice remarked that the actual root of the was not unveiled in the probe.

A three member bench of the apex court headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry resumed the hearing over the court’s notice taken over the arson attack in a Christian neighbourhood in Lahore.

During the hearing, Acting IG Police and Punjab government submitted new reports. The acting police chief admitted he was given a report on every incident, but he said that he was not told anything about the Badami Bagh incident.

On this, Chief Justice Chaudhry remarked: “How the houses could be vacated in Joseph Colony without the IG’s consent? If SHO was aware of this hooliganism, why the IG was not updated?” the chief justice questioned.

The apex court rejected Chief Secretary’s report saying that it does not fulfill requirements of the court order.

Police also failed to conduct impartial and complete investigation of the issue, it said.
