Rawalpindi, Pakistan: A ceremony was held in Chaman to acknowledge sacrifices by the locals of Killi Janghir and Killi Luqman due to unprovoked firing by Afghan Border Police on May 5, 2017, says a statement issued by the Inter Service Public Relations (ISPR) department of Pakistan Armed forces.

According to the statement, Commander Southern Command Lieutenant General Aamer Riaz during his visit to Chaman had assured the affected citizens that Pakistan Army will look after them.

In this regard a relief and assistance package was distributed amongst the affectees on Monday.

Rs 3.4 million cash and 1.428 tons of rations were distributed among the next of kin’s of shuhada (martyred) and injured residents of both the villages.

Headquarters Frontier Corps (FC) has already distributed a relief package of worth Rs 25 million.

FC will provide free education to the wards of Chaman shuhada in FC School.

Provincial government has also announced the compensation for the martyred and injured of Chaman incident. The ceremony was attended by the representatives of civil administration and locals who thanked Pak Army and FC.

It may be mentioned that Pakistan reopened Friendship (FS) gate Chaman on May 27 on the request of Afghan authorities. Chaman border gate was closed down on May 5 when at least nine persons were martyred including three women and five children while more than 40 others injured when the Afghan border forces opened fire on Frontier Corps (FC) personnel guarding a Population Census team in Balochistan’s Chaman area. Later, forces from both sides also continued to exchange firing for hours.
