ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: There will be no public holiday across the country on November 09, and all offices and educational institutions will remain open as per routine on Monday, according to the Interior Ministry.

In a statement issued on November 03, the Federal Interior Ministry announced that November 09, 2015 would be a working day, unlike the past when the nation used to observe the holiday on the eve of birth anniversary of Allama Iqbal.

However, the government’s decision regarding cancelling of November 09 holiday came under severe criticism in social media, and later according to media reports, the government had withdrawn its decision.

But the government subsequently confirmed that that there would be no holiday on Iqbal Day and also issued a notification in this regard.

Meanwhile, the Azad Jammu & Kashmir government has also announced to cancel the annual gazetted holiday on November 09.

“All the government and semi-government offices of the AJK government will remain open on November 9 throughout Azad Jammu & Kashmir to perform their official duties as routine”, says an official proclamation issued by the AJK Services & General Administration Department.

Earlier November 9 was observed as gazetted holiday every year across AJK to mark the birth anniversary of the poet philosopher.

It is learnt that the AJK government took the decision to abolish the gazetted holiday on Iqbal Day under the spirit to serve the nation and the country in as maximum as possible hours.

Moscow says it won’t allow US to silence UNSC on Israeli violence against Palestinians Monitoring Desk: Russian envoy in United Nations Vasily Nebenzya said that the UN Security Council should bring peace, stability and prosperity to the Middle East and Russia would not allow United States to silence UNSC over the issue of Gaza crisis. According to TASS news Agency, Nebenzya said that Moscow will continue to call for an end to violence against Palestinians and will not allow the US to muzzle the UN Security Council as Washington seeks to support Israel's operation in Gaza. "We will continue to stand firmly for ending violence against the Palestinians. Without a shadow of a doubt, we will continue to expose the abuses and sanctimony with which the US is handling the situation. We will not allow the Americans to gag the entire council with their hands in an effort to encourage further continuation of Israel's ruthless operation," he said in a speech at the Security Council.
