SocialNDMA releases animated videos to create awareness how to deal with floods

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Each year Pakistan is blessed with monsoon season as rains subdue the intensity of heat; however torrential rains sometimes cause flash floods in areas which lack proper drainage systems.

Not only in flash flashing-hit areas, hundreds of people and animals are killed or injured but also valuable household items or even entire houses are partially or completely damaged.

As per the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), just in 2018, 135 persons lost their lives and further 134 suffered injuries in rain and flood-related incidents across the Country in monsoon season. Moreover, 1,663 houses were also damaged in the season.

Therefore this year ahead of monsoon rains, the NDMA has released short animated videos in which the dwellers of areas, which are prone to flooding, have been advised to take certain precautionary measures in case of imminent flash flooding.

In advisory videos, the NDMA has suggested the people to evacuate the areas which are likely to be hit by flash flood or they must higher places before the flood struck their houses or wherever they are. The people have also been advised to take food items and clean waters with them.

The NDMA has also asked the people to ensure that all their essential household items and important documents are safe, and remain with them. The people have further been advised to not to swim in the flood water as poisonous or deadly insects are most likely to exist there. Likewise, the people must avoid driving through the hazardous flood water.

Furthermore, the people, facing possible flood threats, have been asked to wave flags or curtains to seek the attention of rescue teams.
