International Literacy Day being observed

ISLAMABAD: The International Literacy Day is being observed across the world including in Pakistan on Monday under the theme ‘Literacy and Sustainable Development’.

The day is observed annually on September 8 to raise people’s awareness of and concern for literacy issues in the world.

On that day, various public and private organizations across Pakistan arrange seminars, conferences, rallies and discussion programmes to highlight the need of ensuring every citizens’ access to the fundamental right of education.

The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) has been celebrating International Literacy Day for over 40 years by reminding the international community that literacy is a human right and the foundation of all learning.
