ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) would provide free of cost duplicate Computerized National Identity Cards (CNICs) to citizens badly affected and displaced in wake of devastating earthquake.

The basic objective of this initiative is to ensure benefits for the citizens as and when the government launches new schemes to facilitate the affected persons. The quake-hit citizens would not need to bring any document.

This would also help speed up government’s efforts for rehabilitation and relief.

As per directions of Interior Minister, Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan here on Wednesday, NADRA’s registration centers in the vicinity have been asked to make special arrangements for providing CNICs to expand and reinforce federal and provincial governments’ relief activities in a transparent and efficient manner.

Similarly, Chairman NADRA, Usman Mobin has asked the concerned quarters to speed-up the registration of local people in the quake-hit areas. They just need to approach NADRA Registration Center or spot NADRA Mobile Registration Vans and man-pack units to apply for CNICs.

The Authority will gather biometrics digital fingerprints and snapshot of citizens, their father and mother name and address for the identification of CNIC number and accordingly, will trace their CNICs in the database. No one will be able to apply for a reprint of someone else’s card.

Director General Peshawar NADRA has been directed to personally monitor the operational activities across the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK).

Moreover, the Authority has also deputed 10 Mobile Registration Vans (MRVs) fitted with state-of-the-art computer and communication equipment and 15 man-pack units for registering affected people.

Local teams of NADRA are willing to work with Pakistan arm and National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) to do damage assessment survey in rehabilitation services.

Meanwhile, Ch. Nisar has said this catastrophe poses a challenge and demands extra efforts and support for the rehabilitation of affected people. Scores of people have been displaced due to a devastating earthquake across the province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. NADRA would make allout efforts to give them a helping hand, he said.
