Acid attack on 16-year-old girl in Jhang

JHANG, Pakistan: A 16-year-old girl suffered critical burn injuries on Saturday in Punjab’s Jhang district after two men allegedly threw acid on her while she was at her home, a police official said.

The Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) said that two men identified as Tauseef and Asmatullah threw acid on the girl after her family turned down Asmatullah’s marriage proposal.

The girl was shifted to a hospital where, according to the doctors, she is in critical condition and has sustained 90 percent burn injuries.

The doctors said that she has lost 95 percent of her eyesight.

“One man, Tauseef, has been arrested. And we are very close to arresting the second attacker, Asmatullah, and are hoping to do so today,” the DSP said. “We have lodged an FIR, and the criminals will be tried in an anti-terrorism court.”
