Karachi: As many as sixty-five Hindu couples have tied nuptial knot at a mass wedding ceremony in Karachi.
The mass ceremony was organised by a non-governmental organisation, the Pakistan Hindu Council (PHC) for the couples who could not afford their marriage expenses. They tied the nuptial knot with the assistance of the community.
“Many (poor) people in different areas worry about how they will get married. Now, nothing can be more delightful than sending these couples with magnificence, drum beating and blessings.”
Most of the couples hailed from Mirpurkhas, Sanghar, Badin and Tando Allahyar in Sindh, and some from Balochistan.
One of the grooms, Chatru Hemani said he chose to get married in a mass wedding because his family was poor.
“I am poor. I cannot afford to get married nor can my family support me to do so. That is why I have come here to get married.”
For bride Sapna Chetan, the wedding was about sharing the love with more people.
“Earlier, I used to be loved by my parents only but now I will receive the love of my mother-in-law and father-in-law, and also the love of my husband that is why I am very happy.”
The tiny Hindu minority community makes up less than three percent of 180 million population of majority Muslim Pakistan.
