ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: A total of 21,021 women were subjected to karo-kari (honour killing), rape, vani and other heinous barbarous practices in Pakistan during the last five years, the National Assembly was told on Monday (honour killings in Pakistan).
In reply to a question by Pakistan People’s Party’s (PPP) lawmaker Shahida Rehmani about the number of women murdered in Pakistan on the pretext of karo-kari, vani and other heinous crimes, the Minister for Human Rights Dr. Shireen Mazari informed the Lower House of the Parliament that as per the information obtained from National Police Bureau, 1548 honour killings cases were registered in the Country from January 2014 to June 2018.
Dr. Shireen Mazari informed that during the said period, 45 vani and 5416 cases related to other heinous crimes were registered.
Likewise, she informed that 14003 cases of girls being raped were also registered during the last five years.

The human rights minister further told the House that from January 2014 to June 2018, 14003 women were subjected to rape, 5312 to murder, 1548 to karo-kari, 99 to acid attack, 45 to vani and five to custodial sexual violence.
Dr. Shireen Mazari told that in 2014, a total of 4203 cases related to karo-kari, vani, rape and other heinous crimes were registered in the Country; in 2015, 3715 cases; in 2016, 5084 cases; in 2017, 5103 cases; and in 2018 (till June) 2947 cases were registered.
