Social11 killed as dense fog causes accidents in Punjab

KHANEWAL/BAHAWALPUR, Pakistan: As many as 11 persons were killed while around 32 sustained injuries in separate road accidents in Khanewal, Bahawalpur and Pakpattan areas of Punjab due to dense fog early Thursday morning.

Rescue sources said that 10 passengers lost their lives and around 20 others suffered injuries as the bus they were riding collided with a stationary trailer on motorway in Khanewal.

They said that the bus, moving from Lahore to Rajanpur in dense fog, hit a stationary trailer near Rasheeda Interchange on M4 motorway while moving towards Multan.

Sources said that the injured persons were shifted to Khanewal Hospital whereas severely injured were shifted to Nishtar Hospital Multan.

Separately, a child died and 10 persons received injuries when two buses collided with each other in Pakpattan while as a result of a collision between two oil tankers and a trailer on national highway in Bahawalpur, two persons were injured.

Rescue sources said that both the accidents took place due to dense fog.

It is pertinent to mention here that dense foggy conditions are prevailing over plain areas of Punjab and Upper Sindh during morning hours. Therefore, not only people are suffering a lot while traveling as traffic flow has badly been affected but the number of road accidents has also increased, causing multiple casualties.

The Motorway Spokesman has warned the people against unnecessary travelling in fog-affected areas.
