ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Bitter backlash against Bollywood actor Aamir Khan’s remarks about growing intolerance in India continues, as a leader of Hindu radical organization, Shiv Sena, announced reward for anyone who slaps the Muslim superstar.

According to Indian media, Shiv Sena’s Punjab unit chief has said that anyone who slapped Aamir Khan would receive Rs 1 lakh (100,000) for each slap from the party.

On Monday, Aamir Khan said during a television program that a sense of insecurity and fear was gripping India and revealed that his wife had even questioned whether the couple should leave the country.

His remarks sparked a storm of criticism including from the ruling Hindu nationalist party, BJP.

“As an individual, as a citizen, certainly I have also been alarmed, I can’t deny it, by a number of incidents,” he said at an awards ceremony in New Delhi.

The 50-year-old actor was the latest in a series of high-profile figures from the art world to raise concerns about religious and cultural intolerance under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who was elected last year.

Fellow Bollywood star Shahrukh Khan referred recently to “extreme intolerance in India” after the lynching of a Muslim man in October over rumours he had eaten beef.
