SHC orders to remove Musharraf’s name from ECL

KARACHI: The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Thursday ordered to remove the name of former president General (retd) Pervez Musharraf from the Exit Control List (ECL), allowing the ex-military ruler to fly abroad.

The federal government can appeal against the decision of the SHC in the Supreme Court within 15 days.

The two-member bench of the SHC comprising of Justice Muhammad Ali Muzhar and Justice Shahnawaz announced its decision over a plea seeking to remove name of former president from the ECL.

In its ruling, the court further said that the former president could not leave the country for the next 15 days.

Musharraf is facing treason charges for subverting and circumventing the Constitution by imposing emergency on November 3, 2007. The federal government had placed his name on the ECL, stating he might try to abscond.
