LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif on Saturday approved the master plan for the development of the Quaid-e-Azam Solar Park, the project would produce 1,000 MW when completed.

The approval was given at a high level meeting of the Punjab Energy Council in Lahore on Saturday.

   

The solar park, funded by Chinese company TBEA, is to be constructed on 5,000 acres in Cholistan near Yazman and is 30 kilometres from Bahawalpur.

Addressing the meeting the chief minister said the first phase would be the development of eight projects of 50 Megawatts each.

The chief minister ordered the upgrading of the transmission line and the development of an infrastructure grid to hurry the developmental process.

The CM Punjab also approved the use of water from a canal near to the area for the project’s development.

Meanwhile, he expressed the hope that the project would ensure continuous production of energy for the province.
