New US Afghan policy one-sided, ignored ground realities: Pakistan Senate report

Senate of PakistanNew US Afghan policy one-sided, ignored ground realities: Pakistan Senate report

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Senate of Pakistan on Wednesday adopted a report of its Whole Committee on Pakistan-US relations, which declared the US President Donald Trump’s Afghan-South Asia policy one-sided.

In the report presented in the Upper House by the Leader of the House Raja Zafar-ul-Haq, it was argued that the whole responsibility of US’s policy failure in Afghanistan has been levelled upon Pakistan.

It was believed in the report that the United State ignored the ground realities, and neglected Pakistan’s role in the global war on terror.

The report also said that neglecting attacks on Pakistan from the Afghan soil is also injustice. It said that the Afghan War can’t be fought from Pakistani soil.

The report also argued that India’s role in Afghanistan will create instability in the region.

The directions for Foreign Office have also been also included in the report.

The Senate Whole Committee’s report on Pak-US ties and policy guidelines was prepared after the US president in his maiden address to nation on August 21 revealed the US new policy on Afghanistan and South Asia, and also accused Pakistan of continuously sheltering terrorist outfits.

The accusations by the US president triggered a strong criticism from Pakistani diplomats and lawmakers who also even suggested reviewing decades old Pak-US ties.

The report containing initial response to the US president’s Afghan-South Asia policy statement was prepared after Pakistani Senate Whole Committee met over the last two days to prepare policy guidelines in light of the emerging regional realities and role of the United States.

Meanwhile, the Senate Chairman Mian Raza Rabbani directed the concerned authorities to send copies of the Whole Committee’s report to embassies and high commissions of different countries in Pakistan to convey Parliament’s message to the international community regarding Trump’s statement.
