ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Senate Standing Committee on Less Developed Areas on Wednesday was informed by the Higher Education Commission (HEC) that four sports universities would be established in the Country.

The Committee meeting held under the Chairmanship of Senator Usman Kakar at Parliament House Islamabad.

Briefing the Committee HEC, chairman said proposal of sports universities was under consideration to further promote the sports activities in the country.

He said HEC took sports issue seriously at all levels and now no university can be established without proper ground of sports.

The Committee Chairman Usman Kakar urged the HEC to increase the quota for sports seats in universities.

He also said that employment quota on sports is need of the hour and HEC should ensure that universities are providing all facilities of sports to students.

The Committee members showed displeasure over residence of private people illegally at Punjab University and Quaid-i-Azam University hostels.

They urged that all outsiders should be expelled from universities and those students eligible for residence at hostels as students of universities should be provided accommodation.

The Committee members said some teachers are also involved in political activities in universities and damaging career of students.

Senator Dr. Jehanzeb Jamaldini said teachers role is important and they should play their positive role for the betterment of students.

The Committee members also said that use of drug in universities is a great challenge for universities administration and all out efforts should be made to punish those criminals who are involved in business of drugs in universities.

HEC Chairman said that on the issue of drugs, raids were conducted at Quaid-i-Azam University and surveillance was improved in the area of university.

The Air Chief reiterated his resolve to further enhance the existing bilateral cooperation between the two strategic partners. Commander AFCENT appreciated Pakistan’s efforts in promoting regional peace and vowed to enhance cooperation in the fields of joint training, mutual exercises and military to military collaboration. In a separate meeting, Chief of the Air Staff also called on Field Marshal Shaikh Khalifa bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, Commander-in-Chief of the Bahrain Defence Force.
