SC holds Sindh govt responsible for famine in Tharparkar

ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court of Pakistan on Monday held the Sindh government responsible for the famine-like conditions in Tharparkar district of Sindh province that left dozens of children dead.

A two-member bench of the apex court headed by Chief Justice Tassaduq Hussain Jillani began the hearing of suo moto case of the incidents of children’s death by pneumonia and malnutrition in the famine-hit Tharparkar on Monday in Islamabad. During the proceedings, the apex court expressed its anger over the negligence of the Sindh government.

The advocate general Sindh told the court that situation is not as worse as media is reporting.

Later, the court adjourned the hearing of suo moto notice on deaths of minors in Tharparkar till March 17.
