SC accepts petition seeking to annul 2013 general elections

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Supreme Court of Pakistan on Friday accepted a petition, seeking to annul the general elections held in May last year.

A three-member bench of the apex court headed by the Chief Justice Nasir-ul-Mulk would start proceedings of the case from October 29.

The petition was filed by the Justice (retd) Mehmood Akhtar Siddiqui in which he stated that the general elections held in May 2013 should be declared null and void due to the faulty magnetic ink used by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) and rigging.

The petitioner called on the Supreme Court to order new elections to be held.
