MOSCOW: Russian President Vladimir Putin on Saturday demanded the US to present the evidence behind its claims of use of chemical weapons by Syrian President Bashar al-Assad’s regime in Damascus on August 21 to the UN Security Council.

“Regarding the position of our American colleagues, who affirm that government troops used… chemical weapons, and say that they have proof, well, let them show it to the United Nations inspectors and the Security Council,” Putin told media persons in Vladivostok on Saturday.

“If they don’t show it, that means there is none,” he added.

Moreover, Putin asked US President Barack Obama to consider what the potential fallout from a military strike would be and to take into consideration the suffering of innocent civilians.
