Religious seminaries received Rs 258 million in funding from abroad, Senate told

ISLAMABAD: The Senate was informed by the minister of state for interior Muhammad Balighur Rehman that around 15 Pakistani religious seminaries, out of which 11 are operating without NOC from the interior ministry, received Rs 258 million from other Islamic countries during the last one year, DawnNews reported on Thursday.

These seminaries were getting financial support from countries including Qatar, Saudi Arabia, UAE, Bahrain and Kuwait through the donations and Zakat, the minister of stated informed.

The state minister said that seminaries which included Madrsa Rehmania Tehfeez ul Quran, Jamia Tul Ulum Al Asria, Jammiat Ul Uloom Islamiyah, Jamiat Ahle Hadith Balochistan, Darul Uloom Jamia Anwar Mustafa, Idara Minhaj Ul Quran, Jammiat Ul Manahil Al Kheriya, Madina Masjid, Madrasa Darulaloom Baltistan, Masjid E Gulzar Ghoi, Jammiat Ul Islam Khushab, Jamia Khair Ul Madaris, Jamiat Al Huda Al Kharia Welfare Society, Islam Trust and Dawat-e-Islami had received money through different banks of Pakistan.

Balighur Rehman further said that there is no check and balance on the religious seminaries across the country as yet while the government had prepared a mechanism through national security policy to regularise the seminaries in this regard.
