ISLAMABAD: An accountability court in Islamabad on Saturday gave permanent exemption to the former President Asif Ali Zardari from appearance in the court during hearing of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) references against him.
The counsel of the former president, Farooq H Naek, said that Asif Ali Zardari would appear before the accountability court as and when required by the court.
During today’s proceedings, Naek filed an application before the accountability court judge Muhammad Bashir seeking acquittal of his client in the NAB references that included ARY Gold reference, SGS-cotecna, polo ground reference, Ursus tractors case and asset case and, thereby, the indictment in the two references was put off.
The former president’s counsel said that his client could not be charged in the cases. He said that there was no evidence in the references against Zardari that could see him indicted.
