War on terror will be won at all costs, says Nawaz

LAHORE, Pakistan: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has said that the war on terror will be won at all costs as it is the matter of our future generations and economic prosperity.

In his address at the passing-out ceremony of the first batch of the Punjab Elite Police Force (EPF) in Lahore on Saturday, Sharif said that the government will not rest till the country is completely purged of the menace of terrorism.

“Protection of lives and properties of people and maintenance of law and order is our foremost priority,” the premier said.

The prime minister said that on the one hand our armed forces are engaged in Zarb-e-Azb operation while on the other hand the national institutions and federal and provincial governments are striving to weed out terrorism under the national action plan.

Sharif said that the establishment of counter-terrorism force is also part of the action plan adopted in the wake of last month’s Peshawar army public school attack.

Nawaz Sharif said that the counter-terrorism force will be equipped with modern security gadgets and provided necessary training. Besides, its strength will also be further enhanced with the passage of time.

The prime minister expressed the confidence that other provinces will also follow the suit of Punjab province and establish the counter-terrorism force.

In addition, he said that he will soon visit Karachi and Quetta to personally monitor the situation there.

Sharif said that it will take time to free the country of terrorists but process has been started towards that end.

“We will not remain oblivious to our responsibilities,” he said.

On the occasion, the personnel of the EPF demonstrated their skills to apprehend the terrorists while the prime minister distributed certificates and cash prizes amongst the outstanding officers.

The ceremony was also attended by the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Raheel Sharif, Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif, Federal Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan and former Punjab law minister Rana Sanaullah.

COAS reiterates army’s commitment to train all LEAs

In his tweet messages, the Director General Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Major General Asim Bajwa said that the army chief addressing the passing-out ceremony reiterated the army’s commitment to train all law-enforcement agencies (LEAs) and build their capacity to collectively work for security and law and order,

The COAS said that the training capacity of security forces has been enhanced and the programme would be further expanded across the country.
