TDCP, Uzbekistan go for tourism development

 

Lahore: The province of Punjab and Uzbekistan have decided to improve tourism networking between the two countries and a high powered delegation of Uzbekistan Embassy in Pakistan held important meetings in the provincial capital of Punjab on Tuesday to promote bilateral tourism and trade relations between the two nations and to promote Uzbekistan as a product and prosper market.

tdcpThe delegation comprising of First Secretary/Deputy Head of Mission Fakhriddin R. Parpiev, Zafar , Consul, Akhmedov, Third Secretary Salokhiddinkhodja Aribkhodjaev and Hamid Mahmood GM Uzbek Air held meeting with Mr. Habib-ur-Rehman Gilani Managing Director Tourism Development Corporation of Punjab while the President The Region Initiative (TRI) Agha Iqrar Haroon coordinated the meeting.

During the meeting, both parties discussed opportunities in Pak-Uzbek relations and Mr. Habib-ur-Rehman Gilani offered support to Uzbek delegations for development of tourism relation between the two countries. It was also discussed that TDCP would visit Uzbekistan to attend annual Tourism Festival and fair after the approval of the Punjab government while Uzbek Embassy was offered to hold stall in forthcoming Tourism Fair in Lahore.

Uzbek delegation also visited Lahore Chamber of Commerce and met President LCCI Engineer Suhail Leghari and discussed issues related with enhancing trade and tourism opportunities between the two countries.

Relations between the two states were established when the republic of Uzbekistan became independent following the collapse of the USSR. Relations have improved during the last two decades and both countries are seeking to improve relations, Pakistan wishing to gain access to Central Asian markets and landlocked Uzbekistan to access ports on the Arabian Sea. Trade and tourism are two main sectors where both countries are coming closer.

The Region Initiative (TRI) is a Tri-regional Umbrella of Tourism related organisations. TRI is functioning as a link among three regions—-South Asia, Central Asia and Eastern Europe. It offers blended tours packages, consultancy, networking of tourism organisations, tourism research opportunities, marketing of small tourism stakeholders, promotion of need of usage of renewable energies, advocate sustainable tourism and ecotourism.
