MIRANSHAH: At least five militants including Pakistani Taliban chief Hakimullah Mehsud were killed in a US drone strike in the restive North Waziristan tribal agency bordering Afghanistan on Friday evening, intelligence officials said.
The outlawed militant group Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) confirmed that its chief Hakimullah Mehsud had been killed in a US missile strike.
The officials said that the TTP chief was leaving from a meeting at a mosque Dande Darpakhel area of North Waziristan when the drone targeted their vehicle.
Mehud’s funeral will be held at an undisclosed location in North Waziristan tomorrow afternoon.
Five militants, including Abdullah Bahar Mehsud and Tariq Mehsud, both key militant commanders and close aides of the TTP chief, were also killed with two others injured in the drone strike.
Following the attack, Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan condemned the US drone strike in North Waziristan agency and said that this was aimed to sabotage Pakistan’s efforts to hold talks with the Taliban in a bid to put an end to spate of violence unleashed by the militia.
Talking to media representative on Friday evening, the interior minister said that a delegation was about to be sent to talk to the Taliban tomorrow (Saturday).

Pakistan’s Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan said there was no confirmation of the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) chief being killed in the drone strike.

The TTP have also neither confirmed nor denied if Hakimullah was killed in the drone strike.
According to reports, the drone strike targeted a compound of the TTP in Danday Dara Khel near Miranshah.
