ISLAMABAD: The United Kingdom has assured Pakistan its full cooperation in countering extremism and terrorism from the country.

A meeting was held between the British High Commissioner to Pakistan Philip Barton and the Federal Information Minister Pervaiz Rasheed in Islamabad on Wednesday, during which they discussed ways to counter the problem of extremism by using various tools including mass media.

The information minister said that the World community must acknowledge the sacrifices, Pakistan rendered in the war against terrorism.

Rasheed informed the British envoy that all the democratic forces are on the same page regarding the ongoing military operation against foreign and local militants in the North Waziristan tribal region.

The minister said that Pakistan’s armed forces have complete capability to eliminate terrorism, adding that there is also a need to counter the extremist narrative by educating people.

The British High Commissioner assured his country’s full support in countering the extremist narrative, and said the media can be used for the purpose of educating people at grass root level.
