SHC reserves verdict on Musharraf's plea for removing name from ECL

KARACHI: The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Monday reserved its judgment on a petition filed by former military ruler General (retd) Pervez Musharraf seeking removal of his name from the Exit Control List (ECL).

During today’s proceedings, the counsel of Pervez Musharraf, A. Q. Halepota, told the bench comprising Justice Sajjad Ali Shah and Justice Naimatullah Phulpoto that the former president’s mother was sick and he wanted to go abroad to enquire about her health, but in view of the SHC order, the government put his name on the ECL.

In response, Justice Sajjad Ali Shah said that the court did not give any order to put his name on the ECL, adding that if the former President wanted removal of his name from the ECL, he should approach the government.

A. Q. Halepota said that that the SHC bench restrained Musharraf from traveling abroad until his appearance in the trial court, while his client has already obtained bail in all the cases against him.

Attorney General Munir A. Malik said that the proceeding against Musharraf under article 6 of the constitution was also underway. He said that this SHC bench is not authorized to hear the Musharraf’s plea asking for the removal of his name from the ECL.
