Rasheed regrets suspension of Geo News transmission in ports of country

ISLAMABAD: The federal minister for information Pervaiz Rasheed has regretted the suspension of transmission of Geo News channel in some parts of the country, Radio Pakistan reported on Thursday.

The information minister telephoned chairman Pakistan Electric Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) and asked him to restore the broad band and cable position of Geo News.

It is pertinent that Geo TV network came under strong criticism when it breached the code of conduct by accusing the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) Director General Lieutenant General Zaheerul Islam of masterminding the attempt on senior journalist Hamid Mir.

On Wednesday, media reports said that transmission of Geo channels was blocked in many parts of the county as transmission was shut in Saddar and Cantonment areas of Hyderabad while in Karachi’s Malir Cantt, numbers of Geo Entertainment and Geo Super were also changed.

Similar complaints were received from Murree where all the channels of Geo were snapped after directives from the Muree Station Headquarters. Likewise, all Geo channels were put on last numbers in Multan city and its Cantonment areas.

The reports further said that the transmission of Geo was forcibly shut in different areas of Okara, Peshawar, Quetta and Dera Ghazi Khan.
