ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Friday approved nomination papers of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) presidential candidate Mamnoon Hussain and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf’s (PTI) Justice (retd) Wajih uddin Ahmed after scrutiny.

The process of scrutiny of nomination papers is underway at the ECP. The candidates will be allowed to withdraw their candidature on Saturday till 12 noon.

Chief Election Commissioner Fakhruddin G. Ebrahim scrutinized the nomination papers as presiding officer. His decision regarding the acceptance or rejection of papers will be final.

The PML-N’s Mamnoon Hussain, Pakistan Peoples Party’s (PPP) Senator Mian Raza Rabbani and PTI’s retired Justice Wajih uddin are amongst the twenty four candidates who have submitted nomination papers for the coveted slot.

Presence of proposer and seconder is mandatory during the scrutiny of papers. However‚ presidential candidates’ presence in person is not necessary.

Polling to elect new head of state will be held from 10.00 am to 3.00 am on Tuesday in the Parliament House Islamabad and the four provincial assemblies.

The chief election commissioner overruled the objections raised by some other candidates on the candidacy of Mamnoon Hussain.

Nomination papers of Zafar Iqbal Jhagra‚ the covering candidate of Mamnoon Hussain‚ have also been accepted.

Nomination papers of Presidential nominee of PTI retired Justice Wajihuddin have been accepted by the Election Commission after scrutiny.

Earlier‚ talking to media‚ Wajihuddin said his party will take full part in presidential election and will not leave the ground for others.

On the other hand, Rabbani did not personally appear before the ECP for scrutiny. His party was considering boycott of the poll.
