ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has recommended names of Justice (retd) Rehmat Hussain and Khawaja Zaheer Ahmed for the post of Chairman National Accountability Bureau (NAB) to the opposition leader in the National Assembly.

The Prime Minister recommended these names in a letter to Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly Syed Khurshid Shah, sources said.

The position of NAB chief fell vacant in May this year after the Supreme Court set aside the appointment of Admiral (retd) Fasih Bokhari on a petition filed by Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan in 2011.

Bokhari was the second choice of President Asif Ali Zardari for the constitutional office after the apex court in its March 10, 2011 verdict had declared the appointment of Justice (retd) Deedar Hussain Shah as illegal, also on Chaudhry Nisar’s petition.
