PM Nawaz urges joint efforts to overcome challenges in Asia

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif said on Tuesday that Pakistan wants good relations with its neighbours including India and Afghanistan and desires peace‚ security and stability in the region for ensuring speedy economic growth and welfare of the people.

In his address to the 6th annual meeting of the Asian Parliamentary Assembly (APA) in Islamabad, the prime minister said that Pakistani people want to bring peace not only in the region but also in world which can guarantee prosperity of the whole world.

The prime minister said that the Asian countries are confronting challenges of peace‚ energy‚ economy and environment and there is need to make joint efforts to overcome these challenges.

Sharif said that the APA can play a pivotal role in bringing close the Asian countries and speed up efforts for overcoming the challenges faced by the region.

During his address, the premier said that exchange of the parliamentary delegations and strengthening of standing committees can help the Asian people come closer and work together for their prosperity.

The prime minister said that if Asian countries succeed to utilize their resources in a proper way and maintain their economic growth‚ they can overcome poverty by 2050.

Talking about Pakistan’s geo-strategic location in the region, the premier said that Pakistan having geo-strategic location is desirous to work the neighboring countries to give boost to trade and economic activities in the region.

The prime minister said that three billion people of the region can benefit from the strategic location of Pakistan.

The Pakistani premier said that Pakistan is also working on various projects to overcome energy crisis in the region including Pak-Iran gas pipeline and Turkmenistan-Pakistan-India-Afghanistan Gas Pipe Gas and Casa 1000 power projects.

Nawaz Sharif said that with peaceful democratic power transition‚ Pakistan is now heading towards revival of its economy through a strong parliament. He said we have been successful to build consensus for fighting terrorism through parliament.

The premier said that the government is also taking concrete measures for revival of economy and overcoming energy crisis. He said the government is determined to resolve the problems being faced by the people in minimum possible time.
